Aqua Mustard

Hello loves! Happy Monday!
Cheers to a 3-day work week. Super excited for a long weekend. I know it's only Monday but the weekend is already on my mind. Wednesday can't come fast enough. You can blame my excitement on the fact that I don't get any vacation day this year. My maternity leave rolled into 2014 and there goes my vacation days. Anyways, I'm making the best of it with long weekends like this.
You can tell by now this is one of my favorite pants. It's been featured multiple times on the blog here & here and on a couple of my weekly work style post on Instagram. The pant is great and the color is perfect, making it easy to pair with just about any kind of top. This time, I paired it with an aqua top for a contrast and a black short jacket. Finished off the look with a statement bead and nude pumps.
Wishing you all a very cheerful 3 or 4 day work week and a splendid weekend ahead.

Hello Lovelies!
Hope you're having a great week so far.
I feel like I've been through the whole of this week already. In other words, I'm super ready for a "relaxing" weekend.
I don't know what it is about this skirt but I gravitated towards it the moment I saw it. I guess you can say it's "different" and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and realized the fabric has a foamy feel to it. Now that's different. I contemplated which top to pair it which only to go with this matching yellow one at the last minute. Last minute decision is becoming my thing now when it comes to getting dressed. That's not a problem until I start losing time changing between tops while getting ready for work.
This shoes, speaking honestly I forgot about them. So, they were rediscovered. I was looking for which shoes to wear when I stumbled upon the box and had no idea which shoes were in the box until I opened the box and found this gem sitting pretty in there. That doesn't happened very often. I think I view this shoes as a special occasion shoe so I pay no mind to it on a regular basis. But, that's about to change.
Hope you're having a great week so far.
Enjoy!

Letter to My 8 Months Old Sweet Eliana

This is your serious face
Oh Eliana my girl. You are growing by leaps and bounds. I guess I should start out with the most exciting news, you are saying mama. I still haven't gotten over the fact that you look so much like your dad, but it brings my heart joy that you said mama before dada. No competition intended. lol. I'm not sure you know exactly what it means yet, but you're saying it and that's all that matters to me.

You're a very independent girl which I love. You have no problem sitting and playing by yourself or watching TV alone for a period of time which I have to give you kudos for because that makes getting ready in the morning, cooking, cleaning and pretty much everything easier. I don't have to worry about you crying for being left alone. But, you do let us know when you get bored and need some attention.

You prefer to be put down to sleep than being held. It takes you longer to fall asleep in someone's arm. You turn and toss trying to find that comfort position for a while. But when you're laid down, you find your spot and go right to sleep or mumble a little bit before falling asleep.

You're starting to give real hugs, pretty tight ones too and I LOVE IT. Your hugs usually come with a big giggle or smile which makes it even more precious.

You love to stand. You don't like sitting at all. Most times when we're putting you down, we pretty much have to force you to sit. Does that mean you'll be walking early?....I guess we'll find out.

You dad can't wait for you to start crawling. Even though I don't think crawling can be taught, he's teaching you how to anyways. Lol.

Thank you for 8+ months of love and happiness

Foil Midi Dress

Hi Lovelies!
Hope you had a great weekend.
My weekend started pretty rough. Fell ill on Thursday night from yet another serious case of mastitis. Managed to make it to work on Friday, but only to leave as soon as I got there.  All better now though. Went to a friend's baby shower / barbeque Saturday afternoon and spent the rest of the weekend getting as much rest as possible. That is the best and fastest way to recover from this thing.

It's no new news that I love midi dresses and skirts. In fact, if that was all I have in my closet, I wouldn't have a problem with it. The print of this dress was what caught my attention. It's kind of hard to go unnoticed in this dress. If the print doesn't get you, the foil shimmery part will and if that still doesn't get you, the half open back will. So much to love about this dress. Almost paired it with a black pump but decided against it and went with a pair of soft tone slingback. Finished off with my current favorite bag by Lulu Guinness.
Have a great week!

Going Natural For Your Daughter

Hair! One can't deny the fact that however you choose to style or wear your hair, it is a reflection of a part of you. Be it bald, natural, permed, weave, dreads, any form.

Going natural Is sort of the it thing today in every good way. I won't say I haven't been asked the question or the thought hasn't crossed my mind a couple of times. If you'd asked me couple years ago, I would have said never, but after my big haircut, I've decided to never say never at least when it comes to my hair. Before my haircut in 2012, I had something against short hair, even a trim would put  me on edge. Might have something to do with going to a school that mandated short hair cut for girls. As it turns out, I'm over that"fear" now. lol. I loved my short hair and I've been entertaining the thought of cutting it again, different style this time.

Right now I have no interest in going natural but I can't say what the future holds with Eliana in the picture. Although, she barely has enough hair for anything, I'm beginning to take interest and learning how to care for natural hair. It doesn't hurt to start doing the proper things and taking care of her "half mohawk" hair at this stage.

I know a couple of ladies who went natural for their daughter for all the right reasons. You know your daughter will eventually get to that age when she'll start asking a lot of questions; oh, that time will surely come. The question about hair as a Black/ African American family will most likely come up. As a mom, how do you explain the difference in your hair to your daughter and do you teach her to love her hair by leading by example? Knowing at that age, you as the parent are the most influential person in the child's life. Talking to these ladies, their daughters started making comments about how nice mommy's hair looks after a perm or good straightening. Asking questions about why her hair is so different from mommy's hair and such. You get the idea. In response to that, these moms went natural and it's truly a beautiful thing.

For now, I can't say I know how I will handle these questions and situation if they do come up with Eliana. But, if it comes down to it, I'm not closed to the idea of going natural; If that will help her see how similar our hair is and help her love her mane.

Would you go natural for your daughter?

Hello June!
Hello beautiful people! Happy New Month!
Let it be known that we love polka dots, if you don't already know :)
So, we decided to start the new month in matching outfits on the blog. Although this was honestly unplanned and a complete coincidence. I didn't even realize we were matching until we got to church and people pointed it out. All in all, it makes for a very perfect mother-daughter shoot, which was exactly what we did.
This may or may not have inspire more matching outfits for the future.
Cheers to a new week and month!
