Jalapeno Turkey Burger

DSCN5264
Hello lovely people and Happy Friday!
Are you ready for the long weekend? I know I am.
We have a food/recipe post today. Yay!
I like experimenting with food. What that means these days is making whatever I have in my fridge and pantry work. This is not my first burger recipe on the blog. You can see the other here, also a turkey burger. For this burger, I wanted something different with a new flavor so I added a few new things I usually wouldn't in my regular burgers. The corn flakes crumbs was a substitute for bread crumbs which was what I had initially thought of, but since I had none on hand I used corn flakes. I've used it for breaded chicken multiple times, so I figured it should work just fine and it did.

Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey
3 tbsp smashed corn flakes crumbs (crushed with my hands)
2 medium Jalapeno pepper: deseeded and finely chopped
1/4 medium onion: finely chopped
2 tbsp Sesame Teriyaki sauce (secret ingredient)
2 tbsp Sour cream
2 tbsp Mayo
1 egg white
2 tbsp Olive oil
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
Cheese
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Bun

Directions
1. Combine chopped jalapeno pepper, onions, teriyaki sauce, sour cream, mayo, ground turkey, corn flakes crumbs, salt and pepper. Mix all ingredients till well blended. Mold into four patties.

2. Heat 1 tbsp. olive oil on a skillet on medium-low heat. Cook burgers about 7-8 minutes each side or till well cooked through.

Talking My Style :: Chambray & Floral

DSCN5189
Hello beautiful people!
It's the beginning of another work week and hope you're off to a great start.
Today's post features a completely new item of its kind in my closet. Up until now, I didn't own a pair of chambray shirt, which if you ask some people, they'll say it's a closet staple because it's versatile. I wouldn't say I've held off on purchasing one for one reason or the other. I just never felt like I'm missing anything. When I saw this boyfriend fit style at Gap, I decided to get it just because. With this style, I can easily wear it as a shirt as seen here or as a light jacket.
This sort of goes along with the question that I sometimes get asked. Do I go along with the trends? Personally, I would say I don't . I shop based on what I like and what I think will look good on me. If that item or style just so happen to be in trend and own by a million other people, can't help it. But I wouldn't say I shop or follow any particular trend. Not that it's a bad thing to follow any trend.
I try to make every piece my own with the way I style it and define my own style.  If you've been following me long enough, you'll know one or two words that constantly shows up in my posts. Simple and Elegant. Simple doesn't necessarily have to be a bad word when it comes to fashion, it all just depends on your definition of simple and your comfort level.
In the next few posts, I'll be talking more about my style. What it is (you may already know that), what defines or influence it and how it has evolve over the years.
Stay tuned and have a blessed week.

Wedding Guest

Hello beautiful people!
Hope your week is going great so far. Another weekend is right around the corner and I'm looking forward to it.
You might remember this skirt from my previous post here. We attended a wedding in Maryland couple of weekends ago and this was my outfit. I wanted something comfortable but at the same time somewhat simple and elegant and this was it. Styled the skirt a little different this time without the belt. Still a black top but a much different style. I love how the off shoulder top transforms the outfit into a more elegant attire. The chunky pear necklace was the perfect match for this top. Paired with a matching green and gold scandals and black clutch.
Wish you a great rest of the week.

Letter To My 10 Months Old Sweet Eliana

DSCN5088
Seems like the days are quickly passing by now as I watch you grow. Your first birthday is fast approaching. Can't believe it's just two months away. This past 10 months has been a complete joy filled one with you in it. Each day, you remind me of how precious life is, how fast life goes by and how you have to make every moment count. You are indeed a gift from God; a fearfully and wonderfully made little girl that I'm thankful, grateful and blessed to call mine.

So what have you been up to at 10 months...

You're now a pro crawler. Although it's a one legged crawl, it's your way and you do it perfectly.

You're can now pull yourself up and that seems to be all you want to do. You have no business sitting. I think I've mentioned that before. When we hold your hands to walk, you just get ecstatic and jumpy and just happy to hop-walk. That's what I call it because your walk isn't straight. You're too excited to walk straight so you hop-walk.

DSCN5233
You love doing the split. I thought you only do it at home, but I've been informed you do it a daycare also.

You know how to give hi-5's, clap and wave bye-bye. Although you don't have the waving part down yet, you raise you hand and attempt to wave.

You understand some Yoruba, gba - take, ma bo - come.

You like throwing things on the floor, just to have someone pick it up and then it goes right back on the floor. I think it's a game to you.

You have a funny cocky unique laugh that I love.

It doesn't take much to make you happy and all giggly.

You're transitioning to finger food. So far, your favorites are pancakes, bread, cheerios and your fruit puff. You had beans for the first time and you loved it, so beans is now going on your regular menu.

You call out mama when crying.

You went on your first trip out of town and you did good.

At 10 months, people are already using phrases like smart and mature to describe you. That just goes to shows what a great girl you are.

DSCN5224
My prayer for you is that the smile and joy that you bring to everyone that comes in contact with you will not cease to exist.
You will bring joy to people beyond your family and friends and your joy will be continually be full.

Xoxo
Love Mommy.

Casual Weekend

DSCN5121
Hi All! Happy Weekend!
I'm ready to get some much needed relaxation this weekend. Nothing on the agenda, for now. You can easily catch me in an outfit similar to this on weekends, minus the heels unless it's called for. You can't get any more causal than a simple t-shirt and boyfriend jeans.
Have a great weekend!

I've Got Bow

DSCN5060
Hi lovelies!
Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was good. We officially took out first family trip out of town. We were in Maryland for the weekend for a wedding. But, the best part of the weekend is that we got to see and hang out with a close family friend. Eliana was a trooper. Saturday was a long day, even as an adult, I was exhausted but she did great. She was well behaved (wasn't expecting anything less) throughout. She didn't want to miss a thing so she got herself excited over everything, was super friendly to everyone and when she couldn't fight it anymore, she finally fell asleep. Everyone kept commending on how surprised they are that she is not cranky or giving a show of her own.
On the other hand, since this is our first trip away from home, I find packing for a baby interesting. Maybe it's because we drove and I could pack whatever I wanted and I did. This little girl ended up with three bags for the weekend while I managed to fit all my stuff in one. All in all, it was a good trip and a much needed weekend away for the family.

You can tell this outfit is all about the bow on the pants.I was hooked on this pair as soon as I saw the bow. Although I contemplated a bit before finally getting it, mostly because I wasn't sure how it was going to fit. Let's just say I'm happy I didn't contemplate too long and made the right decision to get it. The fit it just right, the soft color is perfect and I can even see this pants with the right top working great for a formal event.
Paired with a basic stripe top and nude shoes and bag for an overall easy soft look.
Now let me go find more pieces with bows. I think I'm well stocked up on  stripes and polka dot for now :)
Have a great rest of the week.
